Privacy policy

Last updated September 14, 2026

Cross Border Wealth (“we”, “us”) operates crossborderwealth.ca, an educational website about financial life across the Canada–U.S. border. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how it is used and protected, and the choices you have. It is written to meet Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Québec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25). Cross Border Wealth is a personal, educational project and is not affiliated with any financial firm.

What we collect

  • Requests for an introduction and contact messages. When you use the Get connected or Contact forms we collect the details you enter: your name, email address, phone number if you give it, where you live, the type of professional you need, and the description of your situation.
  • Newsletter sign-ups. Your email address and the date and time you consented, so we can prove consent under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
  • Site statistics. We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused service that does not use cookies and does not collect personal information. It records aggregate page views, the country a visit came from and the referring site. We cannot identify you from it.

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels, and we do not buy or sell personal information.

Why we collect it

  • To answer your message and, if you ask, to introduce you to a professional in the category you chose.
  • To send you the newsletter you signed up for.
  • To understand which pages are useful and keep the site running.

We collect only what is needed for these purposes, and we ask for your consent when you submit a form or sign up.

Who we share it with

  • The professional you asked to be introduced to. We pass along only the details needed to make the introduction, and only after you have asked for one. From that point the professional’s own privacy policy applies to their dealings with you.
  • Service providers that run the site. Netlify hosts the site and receives form submissions; Mailchimp stores newsletter subscriptions and sends the newsletter; Plausible provides statistics. Each acts on our instructions and stores data in the United States or the European Union under contractual protections.
  • When the law requires it. We will disclose information if a court or regulator lawfully requires us to.

We never sell, rent or trade your personal information.

Where it is stored and for how long

Form submissions and newsletter data may be stored outside Canada by the providers named above, which means they may be subject to the laws of those countries. We keep form submissions for up to 24 months after the last contact, then delete them. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe; we keep the consent record for three years after that, as CASL requires. Statistics are aggregate and kept indefinitely.

How we protect it

The site is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Form submissions and subscriber lists are held in password-protected accounts with two-factor authentication, and only the Cross Border Wealth team can access them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we will tell you and the relevant privacy authority without delay if a breach creates a real risk of serious harm.

Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw your consent, or ask us to delete it. Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link. To exercise any right, email info@crossborderwealth.ca. We reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Québec, the Commission d’accès à l’information.

Children

The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes we will post the new version here with a new date. The person responsible for privacy at Cross Border Wealth can be reached at info@crossborderwealth.ca.
