Cross Border Wealth exists to give people whose lives span the Canada–U.S. border one credible, plain-language place to learn. These are the standards every piece of content on the site must meet.
Who writes
Articles are written by practising professionals with recognised credentials in at least one jurisdiction. Every article names its author, their credentials and a disclosure. We do not publish anonymous or user-submitted content, and nothing on the site is generated without a named author standing behind it.
Review before publishing
Every article is reviewed by the Cross Border Wealth team before it is published: for accuracy against current rules, for plain language, and to make sure it educates rather than sells. Articles that discuss tax or securities rules are checked against the relevant Canada Revenue Agency, Internal Revenue Service and regulator publications at the time of writing.
Dated, sourced and reviewed periodically
Every article shows its publication date and, where it has been revised, an update date. Every article also links to the official government sources it relies on. We review articles periodically and update or retire them when we learn that a rule has changed, but articles are not continuously monitored, and an older article may not reflect current rules. Articles more than a year old carry a notice saying so. If you spot something out of date, email us and we will look into it.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it and add a note at the top of the article saying what changed and when.
Independence
Content is not influenced by any product, fund, firm or sponsor. Contributors disclose their firm and any interest they have in a subject. We do not accept payment for coverage or for introductions.
Plain language
We write for readers without a financial background. Jargon is explained the first time it appears, acronyms are spelled out, and each article says what to do next.
